Embracing the adventure

< Previous post in series

Ultimately, if we belong to Christ, then our lives are in His hands.

I might want to be married today, but I have to remember that I don’t see everything, I don’t have the whole sweeping, eternal scope of my life in view like my God does.

And focusing on what we desire but don’t have has such a way of making our lives turn inward, becoming very small and self-centered.

There is a whole world out there – a great and glorious God to discover and serve, people to love, adventures to be lived, battles to be fought, new places and ideas to discover.

It’s a good thing to desire marriage, but if we’re not married today, than there are obviously other things to focus on.

The Lord has been opening my eyes to things He is calling me to do now, and giving glimpses of what some of those things might be in the future. There are still a lot of empty spaces in these plans and ideas – questions about details and timing, among other things.

But do you know what I’ve been learning?

We shouldn’t limit God by mapping out exactly what we think our lives should look like, expecting Him to fulfill only the small things we desire and dream of – instead, why not open our hearts and lives to anything He desires to call us to?

That’s an adventure I’m up for.

Great Post! Lots of super stuff in there! I like the part about how only focusing on our desire can turn our lives in-ward and self-centered! Sadly true. But rightly so, opening ourselves up to His ideas and plans for our lives is wonderous and exciting, and oh so much better!
I see God leading your life into some pretty spectacular works for Him, I feel He has big plans for you - enjoy the adventure! I'll always be praying for you! :)

Steph, that was beautiful written and so absolutely true. Some days it's so easy to see the adventure of walking with God and other days I become so self-centered I can't see past my shallow desires. Honestly, my life is so much more fun when I'm content with my adventures with God...Thanks for your sweet words on my post. That verse was perfect!

Nice series on singleness, Stephanie.

I agree, life with God is an adventure for every one of us. One thing I'm reminded of about singleness is that it is a gift--I mean that. It really is a time God gives us to be what He has created us to be in Christ Jesus, or to become.

As you know, I am going to get married next year (March 19) by the grace of God (and if it is His will), and I consider that a very precious gift. But from the perspective of singleness, I see that also as a precious gift. We don't always know the rewarding adventures God has prepared for us when we rely on His wisdom, until He finally reveals them. I think maybe, in some mysterious way, God humorously enjoys surprising us beyond our expectations for the future.

God bless you!

I hope your writing continues to reach many more people.
