Sunrise Reflections

Some thoughts from my journal...

I'm sitting silently in the near-dark moments just before dawn. Out the window before me is the river - frozen white, cold and still. The sky is grey, but changing as I watch. Suddenly, a streak of pure orange immerges behind the tree line. The sun is rising, the shadows slipping away under the growing intensity of it's light. In the middle of the river the current runs, refusing to freeze. It catches the the colours of the glowing sky and is transformed into a glimmering pathway, mist rising from the edges of it's banks. This beauty astounds me.

The sun is higher, it's rays resting warm on my face and splashing across my open Bible. Psalm 37. The passage is well marked and worn, familiar with prayers of thankfulness and joy as well as tears. I've leaned on these verses, taken hold of them like a sure hand to guide me when the path is dim and I can hardly see what lies ahead. Like this morning's sunrise melting away dim shadows and flooding the land with light, these truths push away doubt and anxiety and fill my heart with light and hope...

"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord,Trust also in Him, and He will do it...

Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him...

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way.
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the Lord is the One
who holds his hand. I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen
the righteous forsaken...

Wait for the Lord and keep His way..."
(Psalm 37:3-5;7,23-25;34)

Amen! Even when there seems to be more questions than answers, when the way before us seems unfamiliar, the One who holds our hand is with us, working all things for our good and His glory! What a priviledge to call the Creator of the sunrise, of the universe, Abba. I am so thankful for His leading...
